I've experienced this with food - something will taste gross, then I'm informed what it is and hence why It's Supposed To Taste Like That, and suddenly I like it. (Despite being the sort of person who reflexively sneers at ev psych, I always had a sort of ev psych just so story in my head for this phenomenon - something tasting not like a normal example of its class might be spoiled, and spoiled food is like the central case for disgust, but a normal version of something different that hits the same taste buds is probably fine. But maybe there's a more general cognitive mechanism also incorporating the genre thing.)
I'm pretty sure I've experienced the genre thing, too, come to think of it, just maybe never put those thoughts together.
